چکیده

A common approach for the analysis of anatomical variability relies on the estimation of a representative template of the population, followed by the study of this population based on the parameters of the deformations going from the template to the population. The Large Deformation Diffeomorphic Metric Mapping framework is widely used for shape analysis of anatomical structures, but computing a template with such framework is computationally expensive. In this paper we propose a fast approach for templatebased analysis of anatomical variability. The template is estimated using a recently proposed iterative approach which quickly provides a centroid of the population. Statistical analysis is then performed using Kernel-PCA on the initial momenta that define the deformations between the centroid and each subject of the population. This approach is applied to the analysis of hippocampal shape on 80 patients with Alzheimer’s Disease and 138 controls from the ADNI database.

Template Estimation for Large Database: A Diffeomorphic Iterative Centroid Method Using Currents

Computing a template in the Large Deformation Diffeomorphic Metric Mapping (LDDMM) framework is a key step for the study of large databases of anatomical surfaces, but can lead to very computationally expensive algorithms in the case of large databases. Here we present an iterative method to compute a better initialization for the template estimation method proposed in [1]. The method provides ...

Diffeomorphic Iterative Centroid Methods for Template Estimation on Large Datasets

A common approach for analysis of anatomical variability relies on the estimation of a template representative of the population. The Large Deformation Diffeomorphic Metric Mapping is an attractive framework for that purpose. However, template estimation using LDDMM is computationally expensive, which is a limitation for the study of large datasets. This paper presents an iterative method which...

Atlas Construction for Dynamic (4D) PET Using Diffeomorphic Transformations

A novel dynamic (4D) PET to PET image registration procedure is proposed and applied to multiple PET scans acquired with the high resolution research tomograph (HRRT), the highest resolution human brain PET scanner available in the world. By extending the recent diffeomorphic log-demons (DLD) method and applying it to multiple dynamic [11C]raclopride scans from the HRRT, an important step towar...

Shape Analysis on Subcortical Structures with its Application in Children with Autism

Introduction Template-based shape analysis has been widely used to assess structural shape abnormalities (volume loss and its location) in a variety of neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. Thus far, most existing morphometric shape analysis has largely focused on a single structure, such as the hippocampus, or thalamus. Nevertheless, there is considerable morphological variation in ...

Time sequence diffeomorphic metric mapping and parallel transport track time-dependent shape changes

Serial MRI human brain scans have facilitated the detection of brain development and of the earliest signs of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases, monitoring disease progression, and resolving drug effects in clinical trials for preventing or slowing the rate of brain degeneration. To track anatomical shape changes in serial images, we introduce new point-based time sequence large d...
